Title IX and University Policy

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states:

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

St. Bonaventure University promotes respect for the dignity and integrity of each person. Members of the university community, guests and visitors have the right to an environment free from all forms of gender and sex-based discrimination and misconduct, examples of which can include acts of sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.

Sexual harassment and sexual violence are forms of discrimination prohibited by Title IX and university policy. The St. Bonaventure University Gender-Based Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedures sets forth conduct expectations for our community and provides a process for the reporting, investigation and adjudication of alleged violations. This policy applies to alleged conduct violations of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (i.e., “Title IX Category” violations) and also applies to a broader range of contexts and behaviors inconsistent with the university’s commitment to equal opportunity (i.e., “University Standards” violations).

St. Bonaventure University prohibits all forms of gender-based discrimination and sexual misconduct and retaliation against people for making or participating in complaints of sex discrimination. All requirements and protections are equitably provided to individuals regardless of such status or status as complainant, respondent, or witness.

Confidential Assistance & Reporting Options

Make a Report to the University (Title IX Coordinator)
Any person may report sex discrimination or sexual misconduct (whether or not the person reporting is the person alleged to be the victim of conduct that could constitute sex discrimination or sexual misconduct), in person, by mail, by telephone, or by electronical mail, using the contact information listed for the Title IX coordinator, or by any other means that results in the Title IX coordinator receiving the person’s verbal or written report.

A report may be made at any time (including during non-business hours) by using the telephone number or electronic mail address/online form, or by mail to the office address listed for the Title IX coordinator.

Title IX staff are trained to work with individuals who report sexual misconduct and can assist in issuing supportive measures, as well as providing on- and off-campus resources, services and options.

Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center (SPARC) is comprehensive national resource center, providing information and resources making sure that the victim service providers have the training and resources they need to better respond to victims and survivors of stalking.
One Love is a national non-profit organization that strives to empower young people with the tools and resources they need to see the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships.
SUNY Sexual Assault and Violence Response (SUNY SAVR) is a comprehensive database of sexual violence supports and resources in New York state.
1in6 provides support and information to male survivors of sexual abuse and assault, as well as their loved ones. Services include a weekly support group chat that is confidential, anonymous and facilitated by a counselor.
FORGE is a national transgender anti-violence organization. FORGE provides resources and support to transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming survivors of violence, including intimate partner violence, sexual violence and sexual harassment.
